And So The Journey Begins...

Today we went to Mary Mackillop Place - the home and resting place of Mary Mackillop in North Sydney. What a great experience. What an overwhelming feeling as we entered the Chapel and approached the tomb of Blessed Mary.
The images that follow are more of our experience today. The excitement was palpable as we wandered the museum. The sisters and their volunteers are so excited about the approaching Canonisation and to think that we are going to be there for this historic event - it is truly amazing!

Mary's bust sits at the head of her tomb.

Mary had to eat too! I wonder what she cooked and how grateful she was when she did.

I imagine Mary was a woman full of life and and love for those around her. To give joy to others is exactly what these statues give to visitors of Mary Mackillop Place.

Grace outside Mary's house - Alma Place. Here we wrote petitions for prayer.

Mary's place of rest. This is the room where Mary Mackillop passed into the hands of Our Lord after a wonderful and remarkable life.

  1. Dear Mrs Sillis and fellow pilgrims,

We would like to know how much luggage you are taking with you? We have a theory that Grace will have the most because she's a teenager. (Actually, we think she might be a shopaholic, too.)

Mary MacKillop Place looks like a nice place. What part did you like the most? (Ester has been to Mary MacKillop's tomb, too.)

Are you planning on bringing back souvenirs from Rome?

Grace, you looked pretty happy to be at Alma Cottage. We are wondering: are the petitions directed to God or Blessed Mary MacKillop?

We all hope you have a safe flight to Rome. We prayed for you all this morning during class prayer and we will continue to pray for you.

We're going to go work on our Mary MacKillop artworks now.

    From Room 9

PS - We had a sneak peak at the changes in the Kinder block ... we think Kinder will like the new changes!

  3. Hello pilgrims,

You must all be so excited tonight. It will be a very special experience and we will be looking forward to seeing photos and hearing all about it.

  4. Dear Room 9
Thank you for your prayers and watching our journey in Rome. Grace's luggage was pretty close to weighing the same as mine! Hers was 7.9kg and mine was 7.6kg. So we have plenty of room to bring things home as we are allowed 20kg each! I don't think we will buy that many souvenirs.
Mary Mackillop Place is very special. I think my favourite part is the tomb itself as you can feel a real presence of the wonderful spirit of Mary Mackillop. The petitions that we wrote were to Mary.

Keep watching the blog as I will keep trying to find the time to post photos of this beautiful city. I wonder if you could do mea favour and find out why Rome is called the "Eternal City".
